I have a test that I run on a particular brand of LinkedIn dipshit. It’s a really easy tell…. show me you’re a parochial moron without telling me you’re a parochial moron: you complain about NZ red tape.

I’ve run US domiciled companies. The best comparison I make is the cost of filing end-of-year income taxes. In the US (for a $5M revenue coy) it costs me about USD60,000 – involving a stack of accountants. In NZ it cost me about NZD5,000 – with me and Xero doing most of the heavy lifting. In the US I’ve had offices closed down by the fire marshal because I wasn’t displaying a correct piece of paper… that would never happen in NZ. ANYONE who bitches about “red tape” in NZ HAS NO FUCKING CLUE. David Seymour is just creating Milton Friedmans School for Kids that Don’t Read Good.

Ultimately, Seymour says, his Ministry will end up employing 90 people. Really? For the past three decades New Zealand has been regularly assessed to be one of the least regulated developed countries in the world. Yet Seymour is claiming there will be enough red tape and regulations to justify hiring 90 people to work year in year out, in scrapping them.

It sounds more like white collar scrub cutting. Meaning: this is a work scheme for ACT members and like-minded zealots. The rest of us will be paying for it, in all sorts of ways.
