It’s not just about the Treaty, it’s about how Māori were treated.

Whether Māori ceded sovereignty or not is irrelevant. As Pakeha, we only cared to further our own interests. We came and took what we wanted. Māori signed te Tiriti in good faith but I’m not sure we can say the same about the Crown.

The sooner we get our head around the fact that a contract was agreed to and then broken. The better off everyone becomes. It’s funny how the party who is nominally hot and heavy on contracts is the one that is keen on retaining the broken STATUS QUO.

My life is not less when Māori rights are respected. My children’s lives are not less. The last 12 years have proven exactly the opposite. This is not a zero sum game.
